Hello,
Another installment of my pretentious blog for your idle eyes.
Really seems like ages since my last post...but its only been just over a week.
Plenty to talk about this week, most of which im sure you wont be overly interested in.
Each week I post my video of the week and this week will be no different.
Everyone reads the blog in their own way, the way I set it out is the way I read it, stopping to view videos and pictures along the way. But, hey, if you wanna just skim through im equally as happy. But please dont be afraid to get in touch @taffrebleu on twitter to request content/rants or just let me know if you like/dislike certain things...its the only way to make it better.
Lets get the bloggy goodness out of the way first this week. I am mostly loving summer clothes still, bad times. As the weather closes in on us though its a perfect chance to snap up some bargains that can be recycled into next summers wardrobe. For the boys pick up some classic clean cut or retro tees... my personal preference is http://www.truffleshuffle.co.uk/ a comapny based in bristol that imports tess, hoodies as well as gadgets, gifts and gomewares all with a cool retro/music/tv kinda vibe. normally quite pricey (tees below are priced between £20-£30) but an end of summer clearence is like a free for all, get the high quality stuff at a much reduced rate! Also check out the tres cool 'retro iphone case'!
For the ladies http://www.walis.co.uk/ are currently clearing out loads of cool summer stock, most of which at half price! Pick up some flowy blouses or printy summer dresses, which will never go out of fashion and can be used year on year for every occasion from dinner to holidays to weddings, great value, if you can pull them off, but be warned they're not for everyone. (dress below is £30 down from £45, and the green one shoulder number is £15 down from £75!).
Finally in the world of shopping bargains this week check out your local Boots. Currently running a 'spend over £5 and get £5 off Boots no7 range' offer. I dont really know what the womens line is like but the mens is immense. If you play it right you can pick up loads for loads less than cost. What you do is spend your £5 to get your voucher, then go back with your first item of no7, my recomendation is the gradual tan moisturiser, go back and pay and you get another voucher! then pick yourself another no7item, my second is the 'Anti friction shave gel' or the 'energising face scrub'. They keep giving you vouchers as long as your total after the discount is over a fiver! Collect the whole set for around 50-60% of the actual cost.
Thats it for the superficial stuff this week, now for the stuff you hate...the preaching!
If you read this on time make sure you have a look at C4 tonight at 10pm, if you missed it try catching up on 4OD. What you will be looking is the first in a documentry series produced by an old friend of mine, called 'Best of British.' The first film in the series follows Dave Clarke, Robin Wiliams and Owen Bainbridge from the British Blind Football squad. As well as following the highs and lows of team selection and the squad's performance, the film also meets the players' families.
What's it like for the players to have sighted family members and children, and what is it like for those families to have blind sons, brothers and fathers? Im lucky enough to have had a sneak peak and its really brilliant stuff. For those of us who take for granted things we do like running out on a saturday for a kick about or hitting the gym, these guys really do put everything into perspective. They love the game and one of them sums it up perfectly when he says ' the only regret I have is that Ive never seen the game,' this from a man who has more national caps than ANY other englishman in ANY sport! Genius film making.
Finally in my life this week;
Some of you may be aware that when I was 19 i was diagnosed as an adult suffering from ADD. At that age I was a very late starter on strong medication that was deemed necessary for me to function well and make my way through university. It had been 2 years since I came to the decision that I was gonna tackle it head on without medication, trying instead the doctors recommendations of healthy living, regular excersise and plenty of rest when needed. Anyways recent events got a bit on top of me (regular readers will note I have had some sleep issues), I found myself back in the hands of the doctor that originally recommended medication. To cut to the chase im back on the pills, a little stronger this time, something called Concerta, which has the same active ingrediant as Ritalin (a name you might be more familiar with). So you can all look forward to some depressive, sleep deprived posts, and some of you can all look forward to me forgetting my pills and going out on the lash (note Callela 2006 as prime example, headbutted and elevator!) Anyway all of this led me up to thinking about how things are different from when I was in school. Back then nobody said 'Mark must have ADHD' they just all said words like restless and could do better, the same way that noone really used the word dyslexic. Are we better off now.... deffo, its fantastic that we've progressed to be able to identify brain disorders that inhibit people from leading regular lives. The vast majority will never understand, but any help that can be given to anyone to help them make things a level playing field is all gravy in my books.
Also just a quick one, been going to 'Bikram Yoga,' dont know who thought that up but its the worst 90 minutes of your life, for that reason you should all give it a go. Essentially you pay £12 to a hippy (who blates is raking it in), then for an hour and half you strech and grunt in a million degree sauna room untill you are more slippery than a Tory backbencher on Hamsted heath at midnight. For me, I think Il stick to running for my excersise.
Here's your videos and pictures for the week my favorite little people....And i'll leave you all with a thought..
