'OCCUPY' is it just me that doesnt get it?
I mean I understand the heave hole of shit we are in in economical terms, but im a tad in the dark about the protests.
I mean an occupation is surely taking control of an area and not leaving until a specific set of demands is met. But the demands are??? All I can really gether is that the protesters are agreed on the fact that society is collapsing and they seem to of the belief that has something to do with greed and the banks. But other than it seems like a camp of a mush of different ideas and solutions.
Everyone feels the pinch of spending cuts and I empathise with police, forces and nhs professionals that are set to lose their jobs because of it. But surely the cuts are not only necessary but just. See, if you have x amount of debt the best way to clear it is as quickly as possible, so you end up paying less in the long run? We all enjoyed p=the freedom of lending, from those of us who bought property we couldnt afford to those of us who enjoyed spending on our credit cards... but everyone is aware of the fact that what goes up must come down.
As for these protests against the banks/bankers... surely we need them, its no good saying stop the bonuses or stop the bail outs, because we need GB to be an attractive place for these people to work, quite simply because theyre tax is paying for all the things these protestors are taking for granted... job seekers allowance, nhs services and other things that are keeping our head above water. A bank cheif executive on a salary of £250,000 before bonus payments pays into whats called the 40% tax bracket for higher earners, so the amount of that salary that goes to government is over £100,000! Think of it this way for each of the executives the banks choose to pay that much money to the country in return gets 4 nhs nurses for a year or 5 policemen for a year. Thats before the tax on their bonuses starts paying for child benefit or working tax credit.
This is what i dont understand, lets cut these bonuses and salaries and force the jobs abroad, thus creating an even bigger defecit and an even worse unemployment situation?
I think its time to asses what actually is causing these problems and address it properly, in goverment. Yes its a horrible fact that the current prime minister was elected with only 36% of the vote, so why arent we addressing this first? maybe its time to stand up and say this isnt good enough. Maybe its time to stand up and say we dont appreciate our taxes being spent on those who have no interest in finding work or making a contribution, those who spend their jobseekers, child and housing benefit on drinking themselves into an early grave and then taking advantage of the free heath service. I dont mind paying large amounts for cigarettes and booze because i know these taxes benefit me in the long run.
I dunno what im trying to say really. I guess its just time to stop bitching about the greed of others and start looking at the real issues that are effecting us day to day. Lets just work get our noses down, work hard and pay off the debt as quickly as we can so we can all enjoy a more careful presperity in the future? At least we didnt sign up to euro, things could be much worse.
Heres a treat since im not even considering blogging for the rest of the week, since im intending to do some serious liver punishing, discodancing, cocktailflirting, lagerdrinking damage with some very good if slightly bad influencing friends of mine.
