Appreciate it has been a while, and once again I apologise. Ive had a busy couple of week catching up with friends, indulging myself in live music and generally getting up to all the mischeif that I hadnt been able to do for some time. It makes for a happy little welshman.
Let me start by summing up my weekend reunion with 'the LADs'

Thats about everything i remember feel free to fill in the gaps but it was a messy one.
Anyways last few weeks Ive had the pleasure of enjoying some seriously good live music. And it got me to thinking, the big performance is back,in a big way, and, its great to see. Didnt we go through a period between like 2002-2010 where it was cool for a band just to show up, look moody, play a few songs and sulk off to the next gig? but the arena shows are massive now! the spectacle is back in a big way! So here for you are my top 5 (i couldnt narrow it down any further) live acts, and my biggest letdowns, let me know if youve had any similar experiences.
*nb some bands are no longer performing together....so unlucky you missed out.
BEST
5. Electric6
Remember these guys? DangerDanger, Gaybar, DanceCommander. Awesome first album, zero in the follow up. As for the live show...loud, great playing, beer throwing, spitting crowd goading moshy greatness!
4. Lady Gaga
RARA AH AH AHH. Gaga was great great, a real spectacle of a show, costume changes fireworks and fancy dress everywhere, it was right up my street, probably would have been higher up my list if Id have been a bit closer, but youd be surprised how difficult it is to fight your way to the front of an arena full of gays, trannies and nutters!
3. Katy Perry
Recent Addition, caught her in cardiff a couple of weeks ago on a ticket whim. Another spectacle show. but with a great view, discodancinggoodness! (plus im pretty sure she winked me! #deluded
2. Tinie Tempah
Last night at CIA or whatever they call it now. My first Rap/MOBO gig really but it was off the hook, full of fashionable types who went to bounce wave and share smuggled hooch. Tinie live show actually as brilliant as his album, and, he looked like he really really enjoyed perfoming. In fact he forced his way into the top 5 displacing lumiaries such as Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, The Zutons and even the late great MJ!
1. The Stereophonics
It was summer 1999. I was a mere 15 years old but even £4.50 for a can of stella couldnt put off the stereophonics 'homecoming' Morfa Stadium gig. The whole crowd was there to celebrate and the band played an absolute blinder of a set! Last of the big time drinkers....probably the best live performance of any song ive ever seen by any artist!
THE LETDOWNS
5. Damien Rice
Loved cannonball, hated the show at albert hall, no atmos and the tickets were about £150 the pair!
4. The last Shadow Puppets
Supergrungyarticmonkeyspinoff. Artic Monkeys = great rocky pop bouncy dancing live shows, The Last Shadow Puppets= none of those things.
3. AlphaBEAT
I dont know what i was expecting from the danish pop tarts, but the one hit wonders failed to impress on all levels, sounded terrible, bad pa....on the plus side it was buy one get one free at the bar!
2. The Maccabees
The show made me wish I hadnt bought any of the music (dont know why I did really). Que' all the uber cool trendy kids jumping to the defence of this soft pop non band. £18 for a ticket to a show as bland as the idiots dancing around like it was the peak of digitally enhanced shitnoise. Less personality than a wet wool jumper.
1. Guns n Roses
Forgive the old picture. Just to make it clear, Appetite for distruction, use your illusion, the spagetti incident all genius albums. And im sure if it has been the mid 90's when rock and roll behaviour was allowed due to the fact they were collosal it would have been alright, but in 2010 after a billion year absence and minus as many original members Axl finally lost all credibility at reading festival after being made to stop after about 5 songs. Blamed the organisers for the curfew, refused to acknowledge he was 58 minutes late, huffed and puffed and blew off stage. I enjoyed Daphne and Celeste in 2000 at the same venue more!
Thats it then folks the best and the worst available to see or not to see out there at the moments!!!!
Coming up this month for me Rhianna at the o2! rizzlekicks and the mighty example #amicooloramianerd!
Anyways aside from that I can actually charge people for taking their pictures officially now so upcoming posts may or may include some very beautiful wedding slideshows in an attempt to secure some more booking for a very empty calender, depending on who i can get top sign the releases.
SAFTERnoon twonks xxxo (safe afternoon)
oh before I go......this is the absolute shit....it is tearing up every pub/club/disco i even walk past and it makes me want to wigglewigglewigglewiggle
I literally can't believe Tinie Tempah is SECOND in your 'top-people-you've-seen-live.' I love him, don't get me wrong, but when I saw him last year at a festival, he was awful.
ReplyDeleteHis live band which don't feature so much on his album, were superb. But his voice was just terrible. I guess it should be better than an autotuned version, but I couldn't understand a word he said, it sounded rubbsih!
