Aye,
2012 then. Olympics, Europe championships, paralympics, dancing on ice... what a year for sport.
To start off on a quick note, back when I had a proper job, with a proper big company and a silly wage, myself and a few other individuals spent a lot of time, effort and a wedge of our own money trying to make sure the following happened. Ive mentioned it before briefly as I wasnt sure the company would stick by their word, but fair play to them...
This year Sportsdirect.com and their sister companies are the official sponsor of Sports Relief 2012. The money raised by sports relief gets spent by comic relief to help people living really unfortunate lives in the Uk and abroad. Its a good thing. You can sign up for a sports relief run, 1 miles, 3 miles or 6 miles in every major city and most big towns, its not til march so do it and raise a couple of pounds for someone less fortunate.
The beauty of having sportsdirect on board is now that they are an international brand and they spend so much money on production of their own label clothing they can produce the merchandise at a much lower cost than sainsburys or tk maxx have been able to do, which means more money from each shirt goes to the charity, its another good thing. Even if you dont fancy joggin a mile maybe you can grab a tshirt or sign up and help run the events in your area, people are needed all over country. Get a tshirt here http://www.sportsdirect.com/sportrelief or pick one up in your local store, they are EVERYWHERE.
Righty ho, onward. Not much work on at the moment, which obviously means that little dollar is flowing into my dwindling account, but it does mean that the cold days that are currently afflicting us give me the perfect opportunity to curl up in my duvet with a book and a brew...nice.
I mentioned in my last post fad diets and me. Im not a fad dieter, I've struggled massivly with my weight over the last 4-5 years (even hit the dreaded 19.5 stone mark a few years back. Currently my meds and my obsession with evil carbs are keeping me at a cool 14 level.
Fads are the devil, I see friends and family every week who are trying something new, from soup to apple to slimming world to herbalife or whatever. Every person is different but for me they are no use at all, stick to the simple mantra that if you burn more calories than you put in your face you will lose weight. In fact mens health reliably informed me that for every 3500kcal deficit you create your body will burn 1lb, but starving yourself doesnt work either cos your body goes into starvation mode and starts eating your muscle (ick).
Im not claiming to be some modern day diet guru, I put on just over 4lbs over christmas, and i lost it this week by doing the following, feel free to give it a go, it does work.
Food for the week---- 6 eggs, two cup of soups, 10 apples, 2 grapefruit, 100g porridge, 1 piece mackeral, 2 lucazade, 3 cups green tea (per day), 4 bananas.
I know that doesnt sound like much but its ample to spread out into 4-5 very small meals per day, inbetween meals green tea stops hunger, and pre workout I get a banana and post work out a glass of lucazade to replace fluids. I also throw as much water back as I can handle, before each 'meal' I'll down two medium glasses.
2 gym visits and 2 home sessions-- gym one; 15-20 mins on the rower, 3 upperbody weight excersises, 15 on a bike, 3 more weights. gym two is the big one and i do a 72 rep superset to make myself ache. at home i'll do an easy swissball workout and an under weight dumbell workout with a bit of running, sprints and intervals are best for burning more kcals.
each workout burns around 1500-2000 kcals adding an extra 6500 to what i burn by just being alive, works out to about 20000 for the week, the food works out about 2000kcal give or take which gives me an 18,000 kcal deficit for 5 days and leaves me just shy of 4lbs lighter right now (friday afternoon), I can now enjoy my weekend with some grilled reggae chicken and a guilt free sunday roast, theres even room in there for a few glasses of wine if I'm so inclined, I usually am.
So it may not be the most healthy way of dropping down my excess christmas weight but there it is, it works a charm and I havent charged you a membership fee or sold you a book. By the way if you are trying to tone or build it probably wont work, when im lifting heavier weights I eat loads more eggs and chicken and broccoli and other high protein high zinc stuff to support the growth, but to get to a level from which you can build its effective.
Enjoy that. Heres some pretty pictures.
Heres a brilliant music video
See you all in a bit...im off for a green tea and an apple ;)
